RECAP: Friday May 27th
Highland to Kingston (12.6 miles)
Day 13 of the March for Farmworker Justice brought continued warm, humid conditions. Men, women and children marched along the narrow shoulders of 9W. Cool water and shady resting spots awaited marchers at Ascension Holy Trinity Church in West Park; later, marchers lunched at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Esopus (thanks to Catholic Charities and the Bruderhof Community).
At the day’s final destination, the New Progressive Baptist Church in Kingston, Pastor Clarke offered an enthusiastic welcome and marchers enjoyed a repast provided by St. John’s Episcopal Church. The day concluded with music, fellowship and stories of decades of injustice from retired farmworkers.
