RECAP: Thursday May 19th – March from Floral Park to Jamaica, Queens
Queens Co. Farm Museum to Jamaica (10.1 miles)
"I have been with the group from day one and every day has gotten more and more exciting. Today we marched in Queens. Walking through different housing developments and greeting all kinds of people on the streets put a smile on my face. We were a smaller group of around 15 today, but we were mighty! People we passed on the streets were intrigued by who we were and what we were doing. We got many honks from cars in support and blessed greetings from others. Today was the first with sun all day so it was hot and exhausting, but we made it to our final destination of the Grace Episcopal Church in Jamaica.
We were greeted at the church with smiles and kindness. We partook in a delicious meal of Caribbean food in correlation with evening’s theme of Caribbean Farmworkers. We heard from farmworkers and their families as stories were shared and "hallelujahs" were shouted! It was an evening of friendship, togetherness, and hope. As we march on, we will have the encouragement of those we meet along to way to cheer us on and join us in our journey."
