The Youth Entrepreneurship Symposium is a one-day event that is designed to:
• Foster conversation about youth cooperative entrepreneurship with students and other stakeholders
• Share YEG’s model with other groups and students, and receive feedback
• Inspire local youth to achieve their own potential through dialog and the hands-on “YEG Challenge”
• Build community
The next Youth Entrepreneurship Symposium will take place on March 16, 2018. Check back soon for more information. If you would like to help, please contact Katia.
Each year, the agenda starts with a presentation by members of YEG – why they started a youth cooperative, what they have learned, and ways the model can be applied and replicated to help develop leadership and community revitalization. There is a YEG Challenge, in which teams of participating students are challenged to develop and present concepts. In 2014 and 2015 the students came up with the idea for a new local cooperative business. For 2016 they designed a new silkscreen product that conveys a social justice message, and devised an accompanying marketing and financials plan. We will use the same challenge again for 2017. Teams are assigned a coach who mentors their team. A panel of judges selected a winner after lunch.
