With this symposium, we will honor the initiatives taken by the Youth Arts Group by bringing together young people and allies to build a cohesive, diverse community for Justice. Through presentations, workshops, collaborative and political art, attendees, their families, and allies will draw attention to this social justice struggle and invite the community to celebrate our successes, understand the issues, and building solidarity for the future of the movement.
‘The RMM Camp Nurses Scholarship was created to provide financial assistance towards college for youth living in rural NY. Many of the children that I have met over the past 20 years at Overnight Leadership Camp are undocumented and therefore not eligible for financial aid in the U.S. Education is the best way I know to break the cycle of poverty. Over the past 10 years approx. $14,000 has been awarded to deserving campers who have gone on to pursue careers in the medical field and other rewarding professions.’ Peggy Andreas, RN
On March 16th, high school students from Liberty, Fallsburg, and Monticello school districts will converge on SUNY Sullivan for a day of social entrepreneurship. The students will divide into teams to work on the Challenge: to collectively come up with a design that reflects their views on a social justice issue, write a marketing plan and financial projections for the product that could carry their design, and prepare a pitch for a panel of judges. The winning design will be made by members of the Youth Economic Group, and each team member will receive a prize.
Join us October 26th at Temple B'Rith Kodesh in Rochester for our annual Symposium, followed immediately by a gala Dinner to support our Western NY education center and youth empowerment programming. Tickets and sponsorships are available for either event separately, or for the entire day.
This year's theme: Undocumented Students, Their Stories and Success.
