Farmworker Albany Day 2025

On Tuesday, May 20, more than 60 members the RMM community — staff, Youth Empowerment participants, volunteers and allies from across New York State — gathered at the Capitol in Albany to advocate for justice and dignity for farmworkers. Because the vast majority of our farmworking brothers and sisters could not join us, we used our voices to speak out on their behalf. In the current political climate, it’s more important than ever that we support our immigrant and farmworking neighbors.

After gathering for breakfast and briefing at the nearby Westminster Presbyterian Church, we marched to the Capitol Building, making sure our call for justice was heard loud and clear the whole way! Then, we spent the day meeting with our state Senators, Assemblymembers and their aides. We called for their continued support of the Farm Laborers Fair Labor Practices Act, which is currently under attack, and asked them to support the New York For All Bill, which protects the rights of immigrants.

It was an extremely productive day and a valuable learning experience, especially for our youth. We are beyond grateful to everyone who participated and all those who support our work! Special thanks to Maria Christina Martinez, RMM’s Legislative Advocacy Consultant, for coordinating this empowering event.
