Finance Coordinator

Location: Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY

Reports to: Chief Operations Director

Position Type: Full-time (Hybrid, with occasional travel across New York State)

We focus on nurturing leadership, standing with the disenfranchised—especially farmworkers and rural workers—and changing unjust systems and structures. Our mission is carried out through our three primary program areas: Accompaniment, Popular Education and Youth Empowerment, operating across four worker education centers in New York State.

Job Summary:

RMM offers a dynamic, multigenerational and multicultural work environment that values collaboration, inclusivity and creativity. The Finance Coordinator should have a good grasp of financial reporting, as well as high-level mathematical and problem-solving skills. Because this position requires submitting and often explaining complex financial concepts to executives and people without a financial background, superior communication skills are necessary. Non-profit accounting experience is required, as is a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related business. A Master’s degree and at least five to seven years of progressive accounting experience as well assupervisory experience is preferred. Experience with NetSuite and Excel is required. Non-profit donor database experience is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the accounting system for Rural & Migrant Ministry, Inc. (RMM)
    • Financial and bank reconciliations of divisions.
    • Establish and maintain internal controls to support the financial infrastructure.
    • Perform research and information-gathering to determine best financial options, do fieldwork, develop audit findings and prepare a final report.
  • Produce financial reports including: Profit & Loss statements, balance sheets and financial prospectuses.
    • Reconcile all bank accounts on a monthly basis.
    • Prepare budget analysis, Profit & Loss, and other financial statements for all Board meetings, including Finance Committee meetings.
    • Produce grant financial compliance reports for income and expenses.
    • Develop and submit required paperwork for federal and state regulatory agencies.
    • Present financial reporting and potential risk areas to senior management.
    • Submit monthly reports for accounts that go through online, including wire transfers, MemberHub, PayPal, Venmo and credit cards.
  • Gather necessary information for preparation of the annual audit, oversee the development of the audit, and serve as the liaison between RMM and the auditor.
  • Oversee payroll (bi-weekly).
    • Monitor employee benefits, including vacation, sick days, personal days and floating holidays.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable.
    • Interact with RMM Vendors.
  • Develop, in collaboration with the Executive Director, Chief Operating Director and the Finance Committee, the annual budget for the Board of Directors.
    • Monitor the budget and meet with Coordinators on a quarterly basis to review their budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with Wage Withholding orders
    • Ensure payroll taxes and liabilities are paid in a timely fashion.
    • Prepare and submit all Workers Compensation forms.
    • Prepare and submit all Unemployment Reports.
    • Prepare New York State Quarterly Payroll Reports.
    • Prepare and file Federal Wage Reports.
    • Manage Organization and Individual pension contributions.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are in compliance with professional standards, and state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and submit required Lobbying Reports.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary: $65,000.
  • Full medical and dental insurance.
  • Four weeks of vacation, annually.

  • Three-month paid sabbatical after seven years of service.
