Location: Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY

Reports to: Executive Director

Position Type: Full-time (hybrid, with travel across New York State)

Rural & Migrant Ministry, Inc. (RMM) is a 40-year-old organization dedicated to creating a just and equitable rural New York State. We focus on nurturing leadership, standing with the disenfranchised—especially farmworkers and rural workers—and changing unjust systems and structures. Our mission is carried out through our three primary program areas: Accompaniment, Popular Education and Youth Empowerment, operating across four worker education centers in New York State.

  • Partnered with the Clinton Global Initiative, enhancing our strategic effectiveness in addressing issues faced by New York's farmworking and rural families.

Job Summary:

The Individual Giving Director will oversee RMM’s donor development efforts including: capital campaign, individual giving, planned giving and donor appreciation. The Individual Giving Director will be a public face of RMM, traveling across the State to hold up RMM’s Mission and provide people with the opportunity to participate in supporting our mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Donor Development:

  • Build relationships with existing donors.
  • Identify and nurture new donors.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the Executive Director to establish an effective donor partnership plan.
  • Oversee donor management system/database.
  • Work with the RMM Special Events Coordinator to nurture donors through RMM’s events, including donor appreciation events.
  • Work with the RMM Communications Coordinator to develop an effective communications plan to attract new donors and support existing donors.
  • Work with RMM Program staff to create opportunities for donors and potential donors to meet with program members of RMM.
  • Develop and implement a Planned Giving program
  • Serve as the liaison with consultants working on the Capital Campaign

Organizational Representation:

  • Represent RMM in select coalitions, summits and conferences.
  • Work with the Executive Director to present programs to donors and potential donors.
  • Strengthen community connections and enhance efforts to build collective action toward systemic change.

Strategic Leadership:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director on strategic initiatives, including the implementation of RMM's strategic plan.
  • Drive innovative solutions that expand access to resources, such as building up credit unions and cooperatives, to support rural and farmworking families.

Cultural Competence and Team Dynamics:

  • RMM offers a dynamic, multigenerational and multicultural work environment that values collaboration, inclusivity and creativity.
  • Engage with diverse communities, including faith communities, unions and academic institutions.
  • Play a key role in navigating organizational changes and fostering a sense of unity and purpose among staff and community members.

Requirements:

  • A people person ... to the nth degree!
  • Well organized and committed to systems and details. Comfortable with computers and database systems.
  • Experience in public speaking and storytelling and the ability to convey RMM’s mission and vision to potential donors.
  • A thorough understanding of RMM’s programs, the commitment to be in relationship with grass-roots people and the ability to enable their voices to be heard.
  • A willingness to travel across the state.
  • Availability to meet with people in the evenings and on weekends.
  • Strong written skills.
  • Proven, successful leadership in program management and measurable outcomes.
  • Experience in working with faith-based communities.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and experience in working collaboratively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary: $85,000.
  • Full medical and dental insurance.
  • Four weeks of vacation, annually.
  • Contributions to a retirement program.
  • Three-month paid sabbatical after seven years of service.
