Western New York Regional Coordinator

Working hand-in-hand with the Chief Program Officer, the position has several primary components:

  1. Leading a Rural Worker Education Center that is a center in western New York for rural justice.
    • Building a center and organization that prioritizes community-building through relationship-building and hospitality.
  2. Building the Rural Academy of the People (RAP) in Western New York for both rural and farmworking families, and ally leadership development.
    • A key component is the partnership with workers in developing curriculum that uses popular and participatory education.
    • Work hand-in-hand with grassroots leaders, RMM Chief Program Officer, Immigrant Legal Rights Director and the Financial Equity Coordinator.
  3. Outreach within farmworking and rural worker communities.
    • Engage in reaching out to and meeting with workers throughout the region in their homes, camps, etc.
    • Support and involvement in various emerging farmworker organizing campaigns in the region.
  4. Coordinate activities within the Western New York region for Rural & Migrant Ministry, including:
    • Working with others who are developing and implementing training programs for allies.
    • Supervising staff, volunteers and interns.
    • Fundraising.
    • Working on the implementation of a federal credit union.
    • Partnering with Grace! (a multi-faith justice community).
  5. Oversight of the Youth Empowerment programs and staff at the Center.
  6. Oversight of the facilities at the Center campus.

The position will require collaboration with farmworkers, other RMM staff members, and allies within the faith, labor, academic and activist communities.

Requirements of the position include:

  • Experience in popular education and social change process.
  • Experience in managing a program.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Strong experience and interest working with faith and labor communities.
  • Able to work irregular hours.
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking and organizing skills.
  • Self‑motivated, with excellent speaking skills.
  • Willingness to live within the Finger Lakes/Lake Ontario region (near the Center in Lyons, NY).
  • A valid driver’s license.

This is a full-time position with flexible hours and days. Compensation includes:

  • Salary: $70,000
  • Full medical and dental insurance
  • Four weeks’ vacation
  • Contributions to a retirement program
