Utilizing participatory education, the coordinator will oversee the creation of a leadership development program with and among families throughout the region that leads to systemic change. This will take place as we collaboratively develop a new Rural Worker Education Center in the Catskills. Working hand-in-hand with the Chief Program Officer, the position has several primary components:
Specific Responsibilities include:
The Youth Economic Group (YEG)
- The convening of a regular weekly meeting of the group and the setting of an agenda, in collaboration with the members of the group. This agenda will include the identification of, and response to, issues important to the group, experiential education and group-building.
- Creation of a curriculum and calendar at the beginning of each semester.
- This curriculum will include intentionally exploring issues important to the group that may be used for Basement Bag designs.
- This curriculum will also include outside educational programs, trips and speakers.
- Coordination of transportation for members of the group, both locally and to events outside of the region.
Basement Bags Business
The YEG Coordinator will be responsible for:
- The development and expansion of the Basement Bags Cooperative, including:
- The creation of a business plan, marketing plan and sales plan, as well as a calendar for each semester.
- The coordination and management of the Basement Bags Cooperative, including:
- The convening of a regular weekly meeting of the business and the setting of an agenda for the semester.
- Implementation of the business, marketing and sales plans.
- The coordination of training of members and apprentices.
- Coordination of transportation for members of Basement Bags, both locally and to events outside of the region.
Overall Coordination between YEG and Basement Bags
- Coordination of the recruitment process for new members for the Program.
- Development and oversight of the Apprentice Program, including:
- Development of a curriculum.
- Direction of the training program.
- Coordination of transportation needs.
- Oversight of the process that links YEG and Basement Bags together.
- Liaison between RMM (and specifically, YEG/Basement Bags) with The Liberty United Methodist Church.
- Oversight of the YEG Center (Spark).
- Supervision of Fellows, interns and volunteers involved in YEG/Basement Bags.
- Serve as liaison with YEG/Basement Bag Advisory Committee, consultants, mentors, workshop leaders, etc.
- Serve as liaison with the Workforce Development Program.
- Planning of the annual YEG/Basement Bags trip as well as other educational trips.
Requirements of the position include:
- Experience in popular education and social change process.
- Experience in program management.
- Bilingual (preferred).
- Strong experience and interest in working with faith and labor communities.
- Able to work irregular hours.
- Work experience and a strong commitment to the social change process.
- Excellent interpersonal, networking and organizing skills.
- Self-motivated, with excellent speaking skills.
- A driver’s license
Compensation includes:
- Salary of $65,000-$70,000
- Full medical and dental insurance
- Four weeks of vacation
- Contributions to a retirement plan (403b)
