Strong and creative leaders learn through engagement with others. Our participatory educational efforts for adults by and large take place through action, reflection, and analysis, as leaders develop their understandings and skills to work for systemic change. Rural & Migrant Ministry’s efforts often take place in the midst of bridge building, as we work with people in both rural and ally communities and then also bring them together.

We believe that our leadership is greatly strengthened when we have the opportunity to learn from others who come from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Therefore we are committed to an inclusivity that welcomes and appreciates this diversity.

Our Popular Education Program is rooted in the belief that those who are impacted by decision–making need to be at the table where those decisions are being made. We need to learn how to face and change impediments to their participation. We also believe that it is important to learn how to effectively and creatively be at the decision-making table, so that decisions can be made that are just. Therefore, for RMM, it is not only about participating in the system, it is about learning to change unjust systems and structures.

Through our adult education programs we seek to support people as they develop their leadership skills to work for change in rural New York State. Generally we engage in three different avenues:

Theological Education
We help people explore the concepts of Rural & Migrant Ministry (Hope, Justice and Empowerment) through their own faith traditions.
Political Education
We join with people to better understand the political and economic systems operating within New York State (as well as nationally and globally).
Relationship Building
We make it possible for participants to develop the skills and understandings that they need to work across cultural, class, age and geographic boundaries.

Public Speaking

The staff and board members of RMM welcome the opportunity to come and share our efforts and experiences with your congregation/organization/union. We have offered hundreds of presentations through the years, and we love being with people. We offer speaking, preaching, leading of forums, retreats and workshops. Give us a call and we’ll explore the possibilities with you.
